Turban Wrap Headband

For now, I’m going to use this as a place to communicate details about the headbands I’m making! These headbands are made from jersey knit fabric that gives them their comfortable stretch and fit. The fact that we can make them custom fit, allows for a perfect fit! I’ve made headbands everywhere from 18-24 inches! That is a wide range! And it explains why store bought headbands don’t always fit well for us. Some jersey knit fabric stretches more than others. And some is thicker than others. I will try to put details about the fabric as best I can. If you’re local, you’re welcome to check out the supply of fabrics before making your decision.

I have a supply of headbands for sale at Random Harvest, 6th & Main, Sioux Falls, SD! Check out this super cute shop of antiques, collectibles, and local handmade items!

If you’d like to buy a custom sized headband, comment with your head measurement (measure around where you wear a headband), the fabric choice and whether you want to pick it up locally (Sioux Falls, SD), or have it shipped. I haven’t shipped one yet, but they are very light and I wouldn’t expect them to cost much more than $2-3 to mail to you.

As far as payment goes, I’m flexible. Some banks have easy money sending services, like Wells Fargo Sure Pay, that allows you to send money easily from your account. There is also an app called Venmo that allows you to send money very easily. I also have a Paypal account if you’d like to pay that way. You can always mail a check or pay in cash.

Click the Fabrics link to the left to see the fabric options I have in my supply right now. I will update as often as I have new fabric or run out of a fabric. Thanks for your understanding when the latter happens!

Sailor Knot Headband

I’ve also started making these two types of headbands. If you’d like either of these styles, let me know. They’re not made from the fabrics I have posted, but from Cotton T-shirts. Just let me know what color you’d like of these two types until I get pictures posted. Thanks!

Update for blog reading friends

Standard

I realized I haven’t updated this blog with the changes happening around here.

Craig got a new job with Daktronics. Check ’em out, buy some stock in them, whatever ;) He got a job in their returns department and will be splitting his time between the Sioux Falls and Brookings, SD locations. He will be managing the department and working on improving its efficiency. If there is one thing my husband likes, it is when things are done the best way possible! I know he’ll be great in his new job.

We leave Saturday morning! When we were job hunting, things seemed to go so slow, and then, the offer came and two weeks later, we’re leaving. We will move in with my sister for the time being and are extremely grateful for that, as we haven’t found a buyer yet for our home. We covet your prayers in that department.

It is quite strange to think that we’re moving our family to South Dakota. Though I have lots of family there, I kind of thought I’d never live there.

For much of my time here in Pella, if someone was to ask if I would be sad to leave, I would have told you no, not at all. But in the last half of our 14 months here, we have developed friendships with people here that I will deeply miss. I am so thankful for having met them and having them in our daily life for even this short of time. They are reminders that God is with us everywhere and that His people everywhere to love and support each other on our journeys. Friends, you know who you are, THANK YOU. Thank you for loving on us and encouraging us. We consider you great friends and want you to know we are only a phone call, text, or email away and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. And if you’re ever heading west, let us know!

By Faith

Standard

So… I wrote a facebook post just a bit ago… “It is times like this that those day to day disciplines of the faith prepare us for… So that we’re not shaken. #considermeshaken #sorryitsvague”

Let me back up a bit and explain as much as I’m able, about why I’d post something like that this morning. It has been a rough week month or more for me health wise, I’m nearing the end of my prednisone script though and I’m sure better days are to come. It has been a rough week year for Craig at work. But especially this week, his life being threatened by a guy he had a hand in firing, and being given three weeks notice of a demotion. You see, we’re looking for new work for Craig and since the company now knows that, they’re taking steps to prepare for that. Understandable, yes. But we do not know how long it will take for us to find new work for Craig and so, until that time, we’re going to have less income than we did before with which wasn’t quite cutting it.

So, you see: “It is times like this that those day to day disciplines of the faith prepare us for… So that we’re not shaken. #considermeshaken #sorryitsvague” was how I was feeling this morning. And on this Saturday morning, as Craig is out working, he kindly made arrangements for Liv to go somewhere (and Eddy too, but he’s sleeping, so he’s home with me). So I posted that on facebook from my phone and knew my next step was either to get back on my computer and find more jobs to apply for, or read my bible. (I read my bible on my phone now, which I love, because it has a reading plan that it reminds me to read and is super handy.) But, I haven’t read in 19 days. Which is why, in times like this, that I am shaken. So, my choice, look for jobs, aka: solve this problem on my own, or read my bible, aka: put my hope in more than myself. Today I picked read. And this was my reading for today:

Hebrews 11, By Faith

11 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

And it is paragraph after paragraph of “By faith, Abel… By faith, Abraham… By faith, Moses…” etc

Last time I read my reading plan, I was in Acts, so I didn’t know what I’d be opening up to today. But I decided to chose time in God’s hope-filled word instead of my own desperate search. And God met me. He’s real peeps. That is one way He encourages us, it is just as though I heard Him say “Have Faith my child! Don’t lose your faith in Me.”

Now I will probably still be online searching for jobs later, but I will be doing it with a different mindset, knowing God is participating in this event in our lives and it is only with my faith in God, that I will choose to participate, choose what is right and choose to believe truth.

Thanks for letting me share my encounter with the living God with you this morning.

Our visit to Gabbaland

Standard

We were gifted tickets to take Liv to see Yo Gabba Gabba Live for Christmas. Craig said he’d rather stay home with Eddy, so it was a Mommy and Livie night. She was very excited and mesmerized by seeing her friends on stage. I would have loved to be seeing Les Miserable or something at the Civic Center instead, but I am happy to do something special for Liv. I know she loved it.

Livie Update

Standard

Liv: Is 2.5 and has just gone through her first two weeks in big girl underwear! She’s done awesome and had only a handful of accidents. She is in a diaper at night and pull-up at nap time, though sometimes the pull up is dry after nap. She has done so great, we are so proud. And her bowel movement issues are getting better with the help of Miralax.

She is in the “Let me do it” “I want to do it myself” stage, said with much attitude. And often tells us “you not say that” or “no, you not do that” along with those other phrases.

She loves singing and is singing and dancing all day long. She picks up lyrics and melodies really quickly and is often putting different words (sometimes not real words I think) to those melodies. She has started to love to play dress up, and to read books herself (part of the “let me do it” stage).

After the hustle and bustle of the holidays, and with potty training, we haven’t left the house much while potty training, but when we go out to run errands, if I’d head the direction of WalMart, she realizes it at the same point and says “I wanna go a different store”. It is hard to explain to her that in our small-ish town, there aren’t a lot of options and if Mommy had a choice, she’d go to a different store too!

She is saying some pretty cute/funny things lately. I love the way she says “unnerwear” and “frigerfriger” and her “no thanks” sounds like “no dice”. When she sees Minnie Mouse she calls her “Mickey Girl” or “Minnie Mouse Girl”. So cute.

I’ve been reading this short devotional as we eat our cereal together in the morning and summing it up for her at the end with simple messages like “God is always with you”, “you can trust God”, etc and the other day she said that Jesus was with her when she goes potty and when she’s playing with toys and that she needs to be nice and not make Jesus cry.

Liv and I are going to see “Yo Gabba Gabba Live” in Des Moines next week and I am excited to do that with her without Edison around to spoil her our fun. Thanks Grandma Cuckoo. :)
